A 36-year-old North Liberty woman found herself behind bars early Wednesday morning after authorities say she assaulted a police officer that approached her along Holiday Lodge Road.
Reports indicate that Andrea M. Nebergall, of 235 Holiday Lodge, was staggering badly while walking with another female. Upon contact, Nebergall became belligerent, cursed at the officer and refused to walk to the officer's squad car.
After refusing to comply with the officer's order for Nebergall to keep her hands out of her pockets, the officer attempted to put handcuffs on her. Nebergall resisted and was forced against the squad car. She then lifted her legs, and struck the officer on the inner thigh and groin, North Liberty Police said.
Nebergall was being held at the Johnson County Jail waiting to see a judge on Wednesday morning and was later released on her own recognizance.
Assault on a peace officer is a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison and a maximum $1,875 fine.
