AMES — Iowa State guard Jordan Ashton announced via his social media accounts that he is leaving the Cyclones men's basketball program and will transfer to Northern Iowa.
Ashton graduates from Iowa State this spring and will be classified as a graduate transfer, which makes him eligible to play for the Panthers next season.
The Mount Pleasant native played in 24 games during his one season with the Cyclones, averaging 7.9 minutes and 1.0 point per contest. Ashton had a career-high five points in 19 minutes in his Big 12 debut at Kansas State.
Ashton earned a scholarship at Iowa State last fall after spending the previous season at Kirkwood Community College. Prior to Kirkwood, he was at Northwest Missouri State for two seasons — red-shirting his first.
Ashton wrote about his decision on Instagram:
'With my final year of college basketball approaching, I had to make a tough decision. I've decided that I will be transferring from Iowa State for my senior season. I know this is the best decision for me and my future. I enjoyed my time at ISU, I had a great experience, and I want to thank everyone who made this year special. I am extremely blessed & excited to announce that I will be continuing my basketball career at the University of Northern Iowa for my last season. The best is yet to come… #PantherNation"
