C.R. RoughRiders with 12 returnees on 30-man roster

CEDAR RAPIDS — The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders' 30-man roster going into fall camp actually contains only 29 guys. At least right now.

The United States Hockey League club has revealed its players, with one roster spot still open. The regular season begins with a home game, Saturday, Sept. 24 against the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

Players with experience from last season are goalie Zack LaRocque and defensemen Trevor Zins, Ben Foley, Taylor Brierley and Riese Zmolek, as well as forwards Will Garin, Liam Walsh, Zac Robbins, John DeRoche, Matt Gosiewski, Sam Sternschein and Pavel Tkachkov.

The roster includes a pair of defensemen from Hungary in Bence Stipsicz and Peter Szombor. Eighteen of the 29 players already have made college commitments.

Cuts still will need to be made by the season opener.
