Feulner, LaVaune Aurilla Katherine
LaVaune Aurilla Katherine Feulner died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at the West Union Good Samaritan Center. She was 93 years old. Visitation will be from 3 until 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Clermont. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 tonight at the funeral home. The Rev. Jerome Godson will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in West Union Cemetery, West Union.
LaVaune, the daughter of Mike and Alta (Smock) Miller, was born June 5, 1918, in her grandmother's log cabin near Greeley, Iowa. LaVaune was united in marriage with Howard Woodson on Aug. 12, 1937, at Stavanger Lutheran Church near Ossian. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1963. To this union one son was born. She graduated from Strawberry Point High School in 1936 and after receiving normal training, started teaching at country schools in the Dover and Auburn townships in Fayette County. She attended Upper Iowa University in the evenings and during the summer and received her Bachelor of Science degree. When the new elementary school opened in West Union, she started teaching second grade until 1965. After her husband's death, she moved back to Strawberry Point and was a substitute teacher in the Starmont Schools until her retirement. Shortly after her return to Strawberry Point, she renewed an old friendship with Harold Feulner. They were united in marriage on June 5, 1967, at Olson's Resort, Detroit Lakes, Minn. Harold preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1995.
LaVaune enjoyed fishing, canning pickles and jam, quilting, and making peanut brittle for Christmas. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and was especially fond of her nieces and nephews.
LaVaune is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David “Pete” and Mary Ann Woodson of Clermont; four grandchildren, Mike Woodson of Eldorado, Lee (Christine) Woodson of Ossian, Sarah (Bruce) Lehmann of Clermont and Janice (Chris) Gordon of Maynard; six great-grandchildren, Blaine and Kyle Woodson, Ryin and Payten Lehmann, and Dustin and Aaliyah Gordon; three sisters, Verla Mae (Gene) Schultz of Edgewood, Helen Downey of Edgewood and Jeanette Gibson of Ledyard; and several nieces and nephews.
LaVaune was preceded in death by her husbands; one great-grandson, Kelby Lehmann; her parents; two brothers, Homer and Mike Miller Jr.; and one sister, Pat Galloway.
Memorials may be made to the West Union Good Samaritan Center or to Heart of Iowa Hospice in West Union.
