ELIZABETH "BESS" PISNEY MCCANN
Marion
Elizabeth "Bess" Pisney McCann of Fair Oaks, Calif., formerly of Marion, Iowa, died Nov. 7, 2018, in Folsum, Calif., following a short illness. At Bess' request,
there was no formal funeral service.
Bess was born in Linn County, Iowa, on Sept. 17, 1928, to Adolph and Marie (Stary) Pisney. Because of convenience for schooling, she was raised by her sister, Mary (Mrs. Louis) Pazour, in Marion.
Bess graduated from Marion High School in 1947, enrolling in Coe College, where she became a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Transferring to Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, she completed her elementary education degree in two years, graduating in 1950.
After teaching kindergarten for two years in Marion at the old Lincoln School, she married Bill D. McCann (also a Marion graduate) in Waco, Texas, on Aug. 22, 1952, following his commissioning as a 2nd lieutenant in the United States Air Force.
Thus began her journey as a military spouse, usually teaching at each of Bill's duty stations, finally retiring in Sacramento, Calif.; and upon Bill's retirement, they settled in Fair Oaks.
Bess is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bill; four sons, Kevin of Florida and Scott, Brian and Chris (Shannon), all of California; five grandchildren, Ann-Marie, Betsy, Emma, Alex and Mollie; one great-grandchild, Cora; and nieces and nephews, John (Cassie) Pazour of Colorado, Mary Joe (Bruce) Gronen of Arkansas, James (Wanda) Matus of California, Richard (Cheryl) Matus of Springville and Mary Lou Pazour of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Josephine Matus, Mary Pazour and Delphine Matus; and niece, Jeanne Fee.
The family would like to thank the care center in Folsum for its compassionate care during Bess' stay.
