Cedar Rapidians deserve access to pools

The Cedar Rapids recreation guide mailed out in early March states: 'The decision about which pools will open and when this summer is dependent upon our ability to protect the health and safety of our patrons and staff. Summer season pool passes will not be available.”
I understand and support protecting the health and safety of the patrons and staff. I also realize things are changing daily in regards to COVID-19. To open the pools, I realize they need staffing. May I suggest they reach out to all potential resources for lifeguards if they are not already doing so. Go to the local high school swim teams and swim clubs to advertise and incentivize lifeguard training. This needs to be done now to be done in time!
I have heard that they are trying to make plans to open two outdoor pools this summer. Two of the five is simply not enough to meet the needs of the pool enthusiasts! How is opening two pools safer than opening five?
Season pool passes not being available is a poor decision. Refunds are easy to figure out, they did it last year. It's a disservice for everyone but especially for patrons who may not have the financial means to pay the daily fee as often as they would like to go if season passes are not offered.
Cedar Rapids pool patrons deserve better, let your voices and needs be heard.
