Several media reports confirm Siena Coach Fran McCaffery has accepted the Iowa coaching job.
"It's done," one person close to the situation said.
I was told an announcement is coming today from Iowa with a press conference slated for Monday. I'm still trying to confirm all details on the record.
Here's the link to the Albany Times-Union.
The Boston Globe and ZagsBlog also confirms McCaffery's hiring.
Siena finished 27-7 this year after losing 72-54 to Purdue in the NCAA Tournament. Siena has won 54 games the last two seasons.
McCaffery has coached Siena to three straight NCAA Tournaments. He also took North Carolina-Greensboro to one.
McCaffery coached at Notre Dame under Digger Phelps.
McCaffery is described as friendly, great with boosters, and a talented recruiter. He also runs an up-tempo style of offense.
He also has a
very vocal and opinionated wife, who is prone to outbursts at games. Margaret McCaffery played basketball at Notre Dame and the two met while they were assistants in South Bend.
