IOWA CITY - Former City High football players Dan McCarney and Andrew McNulty return to Iowa City on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.
McCarney is the coach at North Texas, McNulty the quarterback.
'McNulty was 46-2 as a Little Hawk. He was a winner,” said Joe Wilcox, City High's offensive coordinator.
McCarney was a Little Hawk all-state guard and was named first team all-state the Des Moines Register, second team in another listing.
McCarney won a state championship with the Little Hawks in 1970 and McNulty was part of a state championship in 2009. He then led the Little Hawks back to the state championship as quarterback in 2010.
McCarney recalled his high school Mississippi Valley Conference championship as one of his favorites.
'I will never forget the feeling I had as I watched the ball go through the uprights,” he said. 'I've spent 34 years as a Division I player and coach in both the Big Ten and Big 12 and had numerous conference and bowl championships, but that MVC Championship in 1970 ranks right up there with any of them.”
