Stephen Mally, The Gazette
Sep. 15, 2016 8:56 pm
'It's like the Super Bowl for an Iowa City kid.'
Iowa City High and Iowa City West have been battling for the Boot on the gridiron since 1969. There's never an empty seat during the annual cross-town rivalry, featuring programs who have combined for seven state championships.
In the video above, The Gazette's Stephen Mally examines the rivalry with current and former players.
The Little Hawks and Trojans meet this Friday at West.
Editor's note: This is the first in a new video series, Iowa Prep Sports Insider, that aims to feature the traditions of Eastern Iowa high schools. Have an idea? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter or via email (sports@thegazette.com).
