Cindy Garlock taught science for 33 years in Cedar Rapids: 25 years at Kennedy, seven years at Taft, and one year at Wilson. She is now running for one of the two at-large seats on the school board. I taught with her at Taft and was impressed with her creative, activity-based teaching. She brought students outside to the stream and trees to teach about different types of organisms and the interrelationships within ecosystems. She attended workshops to learn about prairie restoration, then coordinated with staff and district administration to begin the process of restoring a quarter acre of land next to the school. Cindy works efficiently and effectively with people to get things done. She's a champion for real-life learning, and we can't find a stronger advocate for students in the Cedar Rapids School District.
