Don’t dismiss the evidence, Sen. Ernst

Russia interfered in our 2016 election. Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report detailed election interference by Russia. A Senate Intelligence Committee concluded that Russia interfered in the 2016 elections and described ongoing attacks against America's democracy.

After the Mueller report findings, Sen. Joni Ernst released a statement, 'After this nearly two-year investigation, the Special Counsel has concluded that there was no collusion or coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia to influence the 2016 presidential election. It's time to move on and focus on preventing any more involvement or influence by Russia in our elections, which is vital to protecting our democracy and our nation's security.”

Sen. Ernst, where is your bill to protect us from ongoing election interference?

In 2017, Sens. James Lankford and Amy Klobuchar introduced a bipartisan bill, Secure Elections Act, giving the Department of Homeland Security primary responsibility within the federal government for sharing information about election cyber security incidents, threats, and vulnerabilities with federal entities and election agencies. Ernst needs to support bills like this.

At a town hall in July 2019, Ernst dismissed a claim that Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell is blocking election security bills stating 'There is a lot of misinformation out there and was not aware of any bills being blocked.”

Russia interfered in our election, Russia continues to interfere in our democracy, and McConnell continues to block election security bills. Ernst needs to stop dismissing the evidence.
