MINIMUM WAGE
N/A
Jan. 15, 2014 9:39 am
A group of House Democrats three days into the legislative session filed a bill to increase the minimum hourly wage. House File 2011, if passed, would raise the hourly minimum wage to $7.75 starting July 1, 2014, $8.25 beginning January 1, 2015, $9.00 starting July 1, 2015, and $10.10 January 1, 2016. The issue has been a contentious issue among lawmakers. Proponents argue the current minimum wage isn't enough for a person to support a family while opponents argue the increase would place a burden on business owners.
