Republicans fail to perform their duty

On Jan. 3, four Iowans were sworn in as members of the U.S. House of Representatives, three Republicans and one Democrat. Ten days later, when asked to uphold their oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, the Democrat voted yea and the three Republicans voted nay. Their failure was to join all Democrats and ten of their fellow Republicans in the impeachment of Donald Trump on the following charge: 'President Donald Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of Government. He threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power, and imperiled a coequal branch of Government. He thereby betrayed his trust as President, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.” The overwhelming truth of that charge is there for all willing to see. This failure to fulfill their most fundamental duty so early in their term of office bodes ill for Iowans. How many more times will our Republican Representatives fail to serve the best interests of the people of the state over the next two years? Pay attention Iowans. We will know them by their actions.
