Bond vote for new Williamsburg gym fails

Feb. 6, 2013 6:35 am
Voters in the Williamsburg school district turned down a $7.9 million bond referendum to build a new gym at the junior-senior high school.
The measure had 772 votes - or 45 percent - in favor and 950 votes - or 55 percent - against. It needed 60 percent approval to pass.
A group of boosters had hoped to persuade voters to build the expanded gym in order to expand and improve the facility for sporting events, provide expanded facilities for physical education classes and host larger events. The project had an estimated property tax increase of $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed value.
