MONONA - MFL MarMac senior Emily Moon has participated in varsity track for four years and, this year, she qualified for the state championships.
Throughout the season, Moon worked to improve her time in the 3000-meter run in each meet. It paid off at the district meet in North Fayette. She placed third with a personal best time of 11 minutes, 31 seconds.
“I was so excited, even if I didn't get first,” Moon said.
Moon also been a four-year varsity participant in cross country where, for the first time, she also was a state qualifier in the fall. At the state meet, she placed 49th out of a field of about 150 other qualifiers.
“My senior year I qualified for both state track and cross country," Moon said. “It is amazing.”
Moon plans to travel to Australia in June where she will run for Team Iowa and Team USA in the Sports Down Under 5K.
She will be attending Northeast Iowa Community College for two years and then transfering to Iowa State to major in forestry.
She hopes to continue running in her free time.
