Linn County acquires mobile unit for Treasurer’s Office services

CEDAR RAPIDS - Linn County's Treasurer's Office has acquired a mobile unit to provide customer service while county buildings are closed due to flooding.

Joi Alexander, Linn County communications director, said the mobile unit - provided by the Iowa Department of Transportation - will be up and running at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. It will be located in the parking lot of the Community Services Building, 1240 26th Ave. Court SW, and remain in operation until services return to the Jean Oxley Public Service Center, 935 Second St. SW.

Alexander said the unit will allow for the processing of motor vehicle transactions, including renewals and title transfers, which have been unavailable since the county relocated to the Community Services Building. Cash payments will not be accepted - only credit, debit, check or money orders.

Earlier this week, Gov. Terry Branstad announced - at the request of Linn County officials - an extension of the deadline for property tax payments by one month beyond the Sept. 30 deadline, given that flooding conditions in Cedar Rapids have affected operations at the county treasurer's office.
