Palo reports sewer main break; residents urged not to use water

Palo residents and businesses are asked to not use their water while the city addresses a sewer main break.

Palo Mayor Thomas Yock said the sewer main break appears to have occurred sometime earlier today and city crews are addressing the issue.

'We just know that it's a sewer break,” Yock said. 'I don't anticipate it will be a two- or three-day situation ...

. We're addressing it right away.”

Palo also is gearing up for major flood levels early next week along the Cedar River.

About 80 homes began mandatory evacuations Saturday in advance of the rising water.

Meanwhile, HESCO barriers have been established along the community's low-lying spots.

Yock said he doesn't anticipate any additional evacuations in the community of about 1,000 residents.

Yock said all measures have been taken to prepare for flood conditions.

'I think we're in great shape, we're just kind of waiting for the bomb to hit,” he said. 'It's just hurry up and wait. We've got everything secured that we think we need and a little more.”
