Iowa high school volleyball regional finals: Tuesday's 1A, 2A live updates, scores

Tuesday night, 16 more Iowa high school volleyball teams punched their tickets to next week's state tournament at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

Regional finals were held Tuesday in Classes 1A and 2A, and there was one major upset. Wilton took down 2A No. 1 Grundy Center in four.

Here's a look at all the scores, plus area coverage.

Class 2A

Region 1: No. 3 Western Christian 3, Boyden-Hull 0

Region 2: No. 5 Unity Christian 3, No. 14 Cherokee 2 (25-22, 17-25, 20-25, 25-18, 15-8)

Region 3: No. 8 Treynor 3, No. 9 Council Bluffs St. Albert 2 (25-23, 26-28, 25-15, 21-25, 15-12)

Region 4: No. 7 Tri-Center 3, Conrad BCLUW 0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-17)

Region 5: No. 4 Sidney 3, Pella Christian 0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-11)

Region 6: No. 6 Dike-New Hartford 3, No. 13 Hudson 0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-22)

Region 7: No. 11 Wilton 3, No. 1 Grundy Center 1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22)

Region 8: No. 2 Dyersville Beckman 3, No. 12 Durant 0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-23)

The glossy record is nice. The No. 2 ranking is cool. But there's some baggage that goes with that. You've got to learn how to carry it around.

'Just the expectations,' Dyersville Beckman volleyball coach Todd Troutman said Tuesday night, after his team swept Durant in a Class 2A regional final. 'It's tough. It's a lot easier being the hunter than the hunted.'

Beckman will be one of eight hunters next week at the state tournament in Cedar Rapids. This is the first time since 2000-01 the Blazers are state bound in back-to-back years.

Class 1A

Region 1: No. 2 LeMars Gehlen 3, Westwood 0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-20)

Region 2: No. 8 East Mills 3, Fremont-Mills 1 (25-13, 20-25, 25-23, 25-15)

Region 3: No. 11 Gladbrook-Reinbeck 3, Ar-We-Va 1 (25-15, 18-25, 25-19, 25-22)

Region 4: No. 1 Janesville 3, Newell-Fonda 0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-15)

Region 5: No. 6 Tripoli 3, No. 9 Edgewood-Colesburg 1 (25-11, 30-32, 25-17, 25-23)

Region 6: No. 4 Starmont 3, HLV 0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-14)

High expectations are nice. But they also carry a burden.

'These girls were under a lot of pressure,' Starmont volleyball coach Robert Goedken said. 'In the public's eye, we were going to state before the season even started.'

And now, the expectations are fulfilled.
