Prairie Hawks Orange capture state baseball title

INDIANOLA - The Cedar Rapids Prairie Hawks Orange baseball team won the 11U AA state title earlier this month.

The Hawks Orange picked up wins over the Central Iowa Redbirds, 13-5, and Bulltown, 10-2, on the opening day, then topped the Bondurant Blue Jays, 15-9, to earn a berth in the semifinals.

Prairie then took down the Central Iowa Redbirds again, 8-0, before nipping the North Liberty Tigers Red, 4-3, in the championship game.

LINN-MAR 10U PLACE SECOND

DES MOINES - The Linn-Mar 10U Grey baseball team took second place in the recent AA Division III state tournament.

Linn-Mar entered the final day of bracket play as the No. 3 seed, then knocked off the second seed before falling in the championship game.

KIM & LEE'S STUDENTS SHINE

DETROIT - Four members of the Kim & Lee's Olympic Tae Kwon Do Academy earned top four finishes at the national tournament earlier this month.

Brandon Spinner, 16, earned a silver in junior sparring (blue belt) and Brianna Marie Olson, 8, won the silver in the red belt Tiger division.

Sophia Spinner, 12, earned bronze in the cadet sparring (red belt) and Matthew Spinner, 15, placed fourth in junior sparring (blue belt).

10 FROM MOSER WIN GOLD

MADISON, Wis. - Ten members of the Moser School of Dance and Gymnastics team won gold at the 2017 USTA Power Tumbling National Championships last month in Madison, Wis.

Moser's champions were Logan Bevans, Madison Butterworth, Adysen Frieden, Alaina Mead, Tenley Bormann, Kylie Belinsky, Kaleah Belinsky, Tucker Erickson, Laura Pierschbacher and Aaliyah Rosenthal.

Runners-up were Paige Kremer, Libby Knipper, Keely Recker, Natalie Ries, Kaia Engelhardt and Adalyn Fette. Hannabelle Erickson placed third, along with Alivia Sweeney, Memphis Voelker, Gabrielle Guilford, Taylor Mullis, Kennedi Bevans, Kyle Peck, Ruby Dolan, Ava Oberbroeckling and Avery Fette.

Other top placewinners were Sophia Geistkemper, Brian Kammiller, Maddesyn Demmer, Karsyn Nichol, Alexa Ries, Addison Norton, Hannah Seevell, Taylor Dean, Madilyn Payne, Katie Fitzgerald, Rachel Everman, Claire Cahalan, Memphis Peyton, Avery Sweeney, Madelyn Schmitz, Kaydence Ahart, Maya Pierce and Allysa Sadewasser.
