Mar. 24, 2015 2:38 pm
AMES - Less than a week following Iowa State's exit from the NCAA tournament, freshman point guard Clayton Custer opted to transfer from the program.
Iowa State Coach Fred Hoiberg announced Custer's transfer this afternoon.
'I appreciate the work and effort Clayton gave to our program this season,” Hoiberg said in a news release. 'He has been a great teammate. I've enjoyed coaching Clayton and wish him the best in the future. I will do anything I can to assist him as he looks for a new school.”
Custer played in 12 games and averaged 5.8 minutes and 1.1 points per game.
The 6-foot guard from Overland Park, Kan., hadn't seen action in a game since Feb. 14 in a home game against West Virginia when he played one minute. Custer played a career high 14 minutes in an ISU win against Drake where he scored six points.
Iowa State now has three scholarships available with Custer's departure.
