Iowa State hits road to Cornell, SUNY-Binghamton

The Iowa State Cyclones are heading east this weekend. The Cyclones will face Cornell, Cliff Keen/NWCA National Duals champ and one of the top contenders for an NCAAChampionship team title this season, and SUNY-Binghamton.

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State wrestling team will be traveling to New York to continue its season Sunday. The Cyclones will be taking on second-rated Cornell and Binghamton during their weekend road trip.

Cyclone Notebook
• The Cyclones are 6-7 in dual competition this season, with victories over Virginia Tech, Kent State, Boston University, Old Dominion, Northern Illinois and American.
• Iowa State placed eighth at the National Duals, Jan. 8-9 in the UNI-Dome.
• Jon Reader (174-lbs) has a 26-0 record this season, and has won titles at the Hokie Open, the Harold Nichols Open and the Midlands Championships. Reader is also the top-ranked wrestler in the country according to Intermat.com
• Chris Drouin (141-lbs.) and Chris Spangler (165-lbs.) joined Jon Reader on the stand at Midlands with fourth and sixth place finishes. Iowa State finished in eighth place as a team.
• Iowa State boasts a line-up that includes six wrestlers rated in the top 20 of their respective weight classes.
• The Cyclones claimed four titles at the Harold Nichols Open only two days after defeating Boston University by a score of 32-12.
• Matt Gibson (HWT) and Jon Reader were both crowned champions at the Hokie Open.
• In his first appearance in Hilton Coliseum, sophomore Patrick Hunter (125-lbs) sent the crowd to its feet with a second-period pin against Boston University.
Iowa State vs. Cornell Series Notes
• Iowa State leads the all-time series against Cornell 3-1.
• The last meeting between the two teams was won by the Cyclones 24-13 in Ithaca, N.Y. on Jan. 31, 2010.
Scouting the Big Red
• Cornell's line-up contains seven top-10 wrestlers. They are: Frank Perelli (125), Kyle Dake (149), D.J. Meagher (157), Justin Kerber (165), Mack Lewnes (174), Steve Bosak (184), and Cam Simaz (197).
• Cornell is currently 5-1 in dual meets with wins over Central Michigan, Ohio State, Missouri, Minnesota and Virginia Tech. The Big Red are the 2011 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals champions.
• Dake, Lewnes and Simaz were 2010 NCAA All-Americans, placing first, second and third respectively.

• Iowa State leads the all-time series against Binghamton 1-0.
• The only meeting between the two teams was won by the Cyclones 30-15 in Binghamton, N.Y. on Nov. 18, 2007.

• The Bearcats line-up contains three top-20 wrestlers, they are: Donnie Vinson (149), Matt Kaylor (157) and Nate Schiedel (184).
• Binghamton currently has a dual record of 11-3.
