Iowa dominates Iowa Central, Cornell in Iowa City Duals

IOWA CITY — Thomas Gilman doesn't care if it's the No. 2 wrestler in the country or No. 200.
'Everything matters,' Iowa's top-ranked Gilman said Friday morning after collecting a pair of pins in the Hawkeyes' combined 100-0 wins over Iowa Central and Cornell College in the Iowa City Duals. 'Every day matters. If it didn't matter, I wouldn't do it.
'I go out there and I put guys down hard.'
He and several other Hawkeyes did just that in front of a sparse crowd at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa topped Iowa Central. 55-0, collecting six pins and three technical falls. In a 45-0 win over the Rams, it was four pins and one technical fall. All told, 12 Iowa wrestlers won matches Friday, totaling 10 pins, four technical falls and two major decisions.
'Make no mistake, this is important,' Iowa Coach Tom Brands said. 'Any opponent can beat you. A man with two legs and two arms, and sometimes a man with one leg and two arms, and a head and a brain can beat you. And if you're not ready to go, you know what, you're going to get beat, you're going to get hurt. You could get both.'
Gilman and Cory Clark, at 125 and 133 pounds, went 2-0 with two pins each. Topher Carton (141 pounds), Michael Kemerer (157) and Cash Wilcke (197) all went 2-0 with a pin and technical fall. Brandon Sorenson (149) went 2-0 with a pin and major, Joey Gunther (165/174) went 2-0 with a technical fall and decision and Alex Meyer (174/184) went 2-0 with a major and decision.
'We want to see whipping butt, taking names,' Brands said. 'But there's always things to work on.'
Gilman and Clark both wrestled less than four minutes total. Gilman pinned Iowa Central's Joesph Sibomana in 1:33, Cornell's Vikash Hypio in 2:23. Clark decked Zak Hensley in 2:05 before finishing Brody Lamb in 1:36.
Both went up to the practice room after their second matches to work out.
'My day is never over,' Gilman said.
'Building our wrestling, building our shape.' Clark said.
