Rockwell Collins has been awarded a contract to provide additional equipment on the Boeing 777X.
The Cedar Rapids-based avionics and communications supplier will provide its large-format flight displays, integrated surveillance system and select flight control systems as standard equipment on the Boeing 777X.
The contract is in addition to Rockwell Collins' previously announced award to provide the Flight Control Module for the 777X Integrated Flight Control Electronics fly-by-wire system.
Together, the contracts rival the content that Rockwell Collins provides Boeing for the 787 Dreamliner and triples the amount of equipment that it has on the 777X when compared with previous generations of the airplane.
'This award for the Boeing 777X represents the culmination of our long-term strategy to provide common, state-of-the-art flight deck technologies on Boeing's next-generation airplanes, including the 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX,” said Kent Statler, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Commercial Systems for Rockwell Collins.
Statler said airlines will benefit from the use of the same equipment on different Boeing aircraft through reduced operating costs and pilot training time.
The new Boeing 777X flight deck will feature five 15.1-inch landscape LCD displays that will increase situational awareness and efficiency. The displays also are used on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX.
Rockwell Collins' Head-up Guidance System will be available for the first time on a Boeing 777. The system, which is standard on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, projects an image onto an angled flat piece of glass in front of pilots' eyes that displays essential flight information.
Pilots can see the display while simultaneously looking outside the flight deck, scanning for traffic or flying an approach.
Boeing has 300 orders and commitments for the 777X, with initial deliveries planned for 2020.
