SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- A day after an overtime loss in their season opener, Mount Mercy's offense struggled in a 2-0 loss to Dordt in men's soccer action on Saturday.
The Mustangs (0-2-0) managed just eight total shots, while the Crusaders (1-0-0) took 18. Mount Mercy placed only three of their shots on goal as Dordt had nine scoring opportunities.
Senior goalkeeper Josh Putz held the Crusaders scoreless in the first half, freshman Antonio Juricic did the same for more than 30 minutes of the second period until Dordt's Phil Nywening broke the scoreless tie in the 79th minute. Five minutes later, Derick Sackey added an insurance goal for the final margin.
Mount Mercy's home opener is Tuesday against St. Francis (Ill.) at 5:00 p.m. at Lower Kingston Field.
