Grades come before goals for Lisbon’s Parker Lindsey

LISBON - Boys' soccer is coming sooner than many think.

Lisbon junior Parker Lindsey knows that better than most.

Lindsey has been playing soccer since the age of 5. He started on a parks and recreation team, then moved to an AYSO league before playing at Franklin Middle School in Cedar Rapids. Now he's getting ready for play for the Mount Vernon-Lisbon soccer team.

Lindsey is excited for this season, especially a game against Vinton-Shellsburg, where he has a lot of friends.

Lindsey not only has been a soccer player all these years, but also has been on the honor roll the past five years. He's always more concerned about his grades than anything else.

Getting inducted as a new member of the National Honor Society this year is only the beginning. He was really proud of himself for making it.

'It's fun helping out in NHS knowing that I'm making a difference to better Lisbon,” Lindsey said.

Lindsey has a 3.8 GPA this year and plans to make it better in the second semester, even with the start of the soccer season on the horizon.

Lindsey already has a plan on how he is going to attend soccer practice every night and still focus on his grades.

'I start some small easy stuff before practice, and right after soccer practice is over, I get home, eat and do homework right away to make sure I get it all done,” he said. 'And if I have questions, I go to school early to get some help.”

Lindsey knows in order to be a student-athlete, grades come before goals.
