School holiday projects -- all nominations

Earlier this month, The Gazette published a notice asking the community to nominate holiday community services projects at Eastern Iowan schools.
More than 30 projects were nominated. Gazette staff members selected three from all the suggestions, and the selected stories were featured in the paper Dec. 19, Dec. 23 and today.
The following is the list of all nominated projects:
-- All Saints Parish School: The Bruins Boosters sold candy grams to raise money for “Basket of Hope.”
-- Arthur Elementary School: Staff adopted two school families through HACAP.
-- Arthur Elementary School: Cub Scouts gave decorated Christmas trees and food baskets to four families.
-- Maquoketa Valley High School: Established a “Giving Tree” in the high school library.
-- Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School: Held a canned food drive for Olivet Neighborhood Mission Food Pantry.
-- Cedar Rapids Washington High School: Raised more than $2,750 to adopt five HACAP families.
-- College Community School District: District buildings are drop off sites for Toys for Tots; Prairie High School teacher George Herman had a food drive in his homeroom; the school-run business, The Fan Stand, adopted a high school student and her mother; juniors wrote thank you letters to World War II veterans from Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois; Prairie Point Middle School and Ninth Grade Academy had a food drive; Prairie Creek Intermediate students made food baskets; students in Katie Brown's homeroom helped Hiawatha Care Center residents shop for the holiday.
-- Coolidge Elementary School: Lory Christoffersen's fourth grade classroom collected basic toiletry items for the Catherine McAuley Center; Girl Scout Troop #8051 helped paint picture frames for AniMeals.
-- HLV Elementary School: Students donated 12 boxes to Operation Gratitude.
-- Iowa City High School: Students donated profits from City High Cafe to the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center.
-- Jackson Elementary School: The fifth grade Girl Scout troop purchased Christmas dinner for five Jackson families.
-- LaSalle Middle School: Fifth through eighth grade students adopted HACAP families.
-- Linn-Mar High School: Key Club members visited residents at Summit Point.
-- Linn-Mar Success Center: Students made holiday placemats for Cedar Rapids flood victims.
-- Madison Elementary School: Collected food, paper goods, cleaning supplies, baby items and personal hygiene items for families in need.
-- Marion School District: Adopted 114 families through the Holiday Giving Project; Marion High School health classes created gift boxes for children at Tanager Place.
-- McKinley Middle School: The show choir performed for several elementary schools, businesses and community groups; the sixth grade Integrity Team volunteered for the Salvation Army Kettle Drive.
-- Metro High School: Students and staff partnered with St. Vincent De Paul to pack food baskets.
-- Postville High School: The high school's FCCLA chapter participated in “Operation Shoebox.”
-- Regis Middle School: Students in fifth through 11th grades participate in Toys For Tots; seventh graders adopted a family through HACAP; the school hosted a Mini-Dance Marathon to support the University of Iowa Children's Hospital; sixth graders collected food for Polk Elementary School families; students and staff collected food for the Catherine McAuley Center food bank; eighth graders wrote Christmas letters to St. Pius X first graders; sixth and seventh graders sent Christmas cards to the retired priests of the Archdiocese of Dubuque and the Sisters of Mercy.
-- Roosevelt Middle School: The student council sponsored Breast Cancer Awareness Week, rang bells at the Salvation Army, helped Arc with their “Wrapping for a Cause” program and adopted a family.
-- Sacred Heart Elementary School in Monticello: Students collected food, toiletries and other items for U.S. troops stationed in Turkey; students collected food for the local food pantry; elementary students designed and performed good deeds through the Advent wreath project; the Booster Club and school staff decorated a tree for the community tree extravaganza; fourth and sixth grade students performed a holiday light show for the elementary Christmas program; students performed Christmas music at Monticello Senior Dining.
-- St. Ludmila Elementary School: Students collected winter items for Jane Boyd Community House and made Birthday Bags for the Partnership for Safe Families resource center.
-- Summit Schools: Prekindergarten and third graders had a food drive for the Linn Community Food Bank.
