IFLY'S MARTIN, KEEN QUALIFY FOR TRIALS
IOWA CITY - Two members of the Iowa Flyers Swim Club (IFLY) qualified for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
Ruby Martin, 14, and Aidan Keen, 16, are two of three swimmers from Iowa who have made the Olympic trial cuts so far. Both attend Iowa City West High School.
Martin, a freshman, qualified in three events - 200 butterfly (2:14:39), 200 individual medley (2:16.73) and 400 IM (4:50.13).
Keen, a junior, qualified in the 200 freestyle (1:51.76).
'Both Ruby and Aidan are extremely gifted and dedicated swimmers,” Robert Pinter, IFLY head coach, said in a release.
TWISTERS SHINE IN PAIR OF MEETS
DES MOINES - Peyton Krotz, Elizabeth Tanner, Sophia Barbieri, Reese Miller and Amera Nakuritimana of Twisters Gymnastics all won titles at the Flip for a Cure meet at the Chows Gymnastics Club.
Krotz won the bars in Level 3, Tanner the bars, Barbieri the vault, Miller the floor exercise and Nakuritimana the bars in Level 4.
Other Twisters placewinners were Hallie Ruby and Molly Icenbice in Level 3, Victoria Barbieri, Lacey Neighbor, Elyssa MacCormick and Serena Rupert.
At the Jammie Jam meet last month in Hiawatha, Tanner won the bars, beam and all-around in Level 4. Neighbor won the vault and MacCormick captured the bars and floor exercise. In Level 3, Kylie Link and Icenbice won vault titles.
Other placewinners were Sydney Cira-Debban and Krotz in Level 3, Aubrey Gilliland, Miller and Nakuritimana in Level 4.
