Thanks to the efforts of a local furniture store and its employees, 40 beds are now in homes that need them.
More than 20 volunteers joined the Slumberland staff at the store Wednesday morning to have breakfast and load the trucks with the 40 beds. Representatives from the two recipient organizations, Four Oaks and Partnership for Safe Families, were also at the event. The two organizations identified the families that received the beds. In addition, comments were made by local mayors Corbett, Thies, Rehn and Bouska, who were also present.
The Community of Christ Church in Hiawatha donated the pillows and bedding for all the beds. In addition, an anonymous Slumberland employee donated 40 teddy bears for the children who received the new beds.
Manager Chad Klinkenborg recognized the local staff members and thanked the organizations for doing the work with the clients.
Now in its 18th year, the Home for the Holidays program at Slumberland has donated more than 20,000 in the nationwide program. Locally, most of the beds were purchased with funds donated by Slumberland employees.
