Developers look to future of Tower Terrace Road

Many are betting that Hiawatha's next growth surge will be along Tower Terrace Road.

“For economic growth, Tower Terrace is our future,” Hiawatha Mayor Tom Theis said.

The city of Hiawatha is the only one of the four cities along Tower Terrace Road to formally adopt the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization's 2010 Corridor Management Plan, which includes the basic alignment and cross sections of Tower Terrace Road, extending from Interstate 380 to Highway 13.

The plan calls for Tower Terrace to be built through five local government jurisdictions, according to Adam Lindenlaub, long-range planning coordinator for the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization. Plans provide for a parkway-like four-lane divided street curb and gutter, bike lanes, landscaping and street lighting.
