CEDAR RAPIDS — Brian Webb announced Wednesday morning he is leaving his position as head football coach at Cedar Rapids Jefferson to take the same position at Sioux City East.
Webb has been at Jefferson for five seasons, compiling a 37-40 record.
'After much consideration and discussion with family members and close friends this offseason, I feel the timing is right for new leadership for the Jefferson High School football program,' he said in a release from the school. 'When I arrived, Jefferson had the state's longest losing streak and my goal was to get Jefferson High School back to being competitive statewide.
'We improved every year and the players continually fought game after game and that is something they should be extremely proud of. I want to say thank you, the dedicated coaches, our athletic trainer and the countless volunteers and donors of Jefferson High School football ... thank you. I wish nothing but the best for Jefferson High School moving forward and hope to see the continued tradition of Bleed Blue carried on.'
He led the J-Hawks to the Class 4A state playoffs in 2014 and 2015. Jefferson was 4-5 this past season, the same record as East.
Webb came to Jefferson after a successful stint at Carroll Kuemper.
