Interesting Bug
While walking my dog over the weekend I found this marvelous creature.
It is a Giant Ichneumon Wasp, Megarhyssa atrata. The wasp is 3/4" long, but if you look carefully you can see the 4" ovipositor.
In addition to being lovely they are fascinating. They use their long ovipositor bore into rotten wood and lay their eggs in the larvae of wood-boring wasps in the wood.
