Often times runners or golfers' passions coincide with a non-profit fundraiser; however, for those who enjoy target shooting that is rarely the case. This weekend, shooters from across Eastern Iowa, and beyond, will come together for a good cause by participating in the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa (RMHC of Eastern Iowa) sixth annual Sporting Clays Charity Shoot to be held Sunday, Sept. 18 at Highland Hideaway Hunting, 3127 160th St, Riverside, IA.
“A great partnership between RMHC of Eastern Iowa and local shooters has developed from this event, and that can be seen through our growing number of participants. Shooters talk about this event all year long and donate throughout the year. They truly enjoy helping others,” said Jake Sommer, assistant director.
“We are extremely proud to support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa and to be a part of this fundraiser that has experienced tremendous growth and continues to generate funding for a vitally important cause,” adds Wes Boothe, Johnson Controls Branch Manager and Sporting Clays Charity Shoot committee member.
This year's Sporting Clays Charity Shoot has its largest number of registered shooters with 145 currently signed up. There is a maximum of 150 participants. Proceeds from this event benefit RMHC of Eastern Iowa and is one of the organization's top three fundraisers for the year. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and shooting lasts from 9:45 a.m. until 3 p.m. with a break for lunch at 11:45 a.m. A short awards program follows from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. A silent auction during lunch and the awards hour provides participants an additional avenue to support the organization. Shooters are provided 150 targets, Winchester ammunition, breakfast, lunch and refreshments along with a complimentary gift and color photo.
