SUTTON, JUNGE SHINE AT IGA EVENT
AMES - Davis Sutton and Matt Junge of Cedar Rapids placed second and fourth, respectively, earlier this month at the Iowa Golf Association Boys Junior Amateur at Coldwater Golf Links.
Playing in the 16-18 division, Sutton shot rounds of 74 and 70, finishing four shots behind Tripp Kinney of West Des Moines and tying Erron Vandemore of Bettendorf.
Junge finished with a 146.
Clayton Larsen of Manchester tied for eighth.
SIZZLER CAPTURE GRANNY TITLE
WEST DES MOINES - The Cedar Rapids Sizzlers beat the Hot Pink Grannies of Des Moines, 58-52, last weekend to win the 10th annual Granny Basketball Tournament at Valley High School.
This is the second consecutive state championship for the Sizzlers, who also beat the Hot Pink Grannies last year, 62-39.
The tournament was held as part of the Iowa Senior Games.
MOSERS PLACE SECOND AT STATE
OTTUMWA - Moser School of Dance and Gymnastic finished second overall and had 13 state champions at the recent Iowa USTA Power Tumbling State Championships.
Twenty seven Iowa clubs, with around 650 athletes, competed at the event.
Mosers state champions were Jacob Gasper, Luke Farmer, Cooper Ingles, Logan Bevans, Tyler Buesing, Micah Brase, Jessie Glanz, Josie Briggs, Makayla Gasper, Kennedy Collins, Keely Recker, Madelyn Bockenstedt and Kennedi Bevans.
3 AREA TEAMS AT SOCCER REGIONALS
Two Cedar Rapids teams and one combined Cedar Rapids-Iowa City team are competing in the US Youth Soccer Region II Championships, which began Saturday in Beavercreek, Ohio.
The Cedar River SA (U16 boys), the CRSA/ISC Combo (U18 boys) and the Cedar River SA (U16 girls) won state titles recently to qualify for the Midwest regional.
The tournament runs through Wednesday.
