CEDAR RAPIDS - Today's second annual Zach Johnson Foundation Classic is filled with a talented pool of professional golfers, from Stewart Cink to Johnson Wagner.
But there will be other celebrities in the field, including several former University of Iowa athletes and coaches.
The list of “celebrity players” includes former Hawkeye men's basketball coach Tom Davis and ex-Iowa standouts Jared DeVries, Tim Dwight, Bobby Hansen and Matt Gatens.
A pair of Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball coaches also will tee it up - UNI's Ben Jacobson and Drake's Mark Phelps. Former Major League baseball player and Norway native Bruce Kimm is in the field.
If you are looking for some entertainment, look for Chris Fehn and Alfonso Ribeiro. Fehn is a native of Des Moines and a “custom percussionist” with the heavy metal band Slipknot, and Ribeiro is an actor best known for his role as Carlton Banks on the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
There are handful of other golfers taking their cuts on the Elmcrest course, too, including Mike Bender, Damon Green and Taylor (Leon) Coutu. Bender is Zach Johnson's swing coach who caddied for Johnson during his John Deere Classic win. Green is Johnson's regular caddie and a member of the Champions Tour as well as winner of 76 professional mini-tour events. Coutu is a member of the LPGA Tour.
Also playing: Matt Hendrix a member of the Web.com Tour, the PGA's developmental tour; Ryan Brehm, a professional golfer and former Michigan State standout; Sara Brown of the Symetra Tour, the LPGA's Development league which has made a stop in Marion the past three years; and Morris “Dr. Mo” Pickens, a sports psychologist who works with many PGA Tour members.
