I'm proud to announce that the Dennis St. Germain Foundation Memorial Golf Tournament held right here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is going strong into its second year!
The Foundation was founded in honor of the late Dennis St. Germain, a local businessman who was committed to developing young entrepreneurial minds. He also believed and instilled the value that hard work pays off.
The mission of the Dennis St. Germain Foundation is to provide college scholarships to students in the greater Cedar Rapids area with an interest in entrepreneurship and agricultural management. By providing opportunities in the form of higher education, the goal is to help foster young entrepreneurs to successfully own their own businesses. Long term, the foundation hopes to instill the spirit of giving back and contributing to their local community.
Last year's golf tournament was held on Father's Day. Prizes were awarded to the top two teams, as well as the last place finishers. There were two raffles held, one for a gas grill.
The Dennis St. Germain Foundation will also award another $1,000 scholarship to one deserving Iowa student. Last year's winner, Adrain Rubey, graduated from Kirkwood Community College with an AAS degree in Golf Course / Turf Management in May. He is currently enrolled at Upper Iowa University working on his Bachelors degree in Applied Plant Science. Adrian stated that the scholarship contributed tremendously to his hours spent studying in the library.
Part of last year's group at Ellis.
In order to be eligible to receive this scholarship, you must be a high school senior or community college transfer. The student must be from Iowa, accepted to an Iowa college or university, and have an interest in entrepreneurship. Potential winners must submit an essay that includes why the student deserves the scholarship and what he or she plans to do after graduation.
The essay must be emailed to Dana at: dana@stgermainfoundation.org no later than May 1, 2011, to be considered for this year's scholarship.
Also a very special thank you goes out to last year's sponsors; Fairfax State Savings Bank, TownsEnd Co., BreakAway Sports Marketing, Pace Supply, A Touch of Class Banquet Hall and Private Park, Iron Planet, Ever-Green Landscape Nursery, and Prairie Landscapes.
