The goals is to peak at the end of the season.
Iowa City West has taken steps in that direction, following the way that led to a fourth-place finish at the 2014 state tournament.
'We had our best round the last time out,” West Coach Mary Goodfellow said. 'We feel pretty good about it.”
The Women of Troy will look to secure another state berth at the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Class 5A regional Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City.
The field includes Bettendorf, Burlington, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Clinton, Davenport Central, Davenport West, host Iowa City High, Muscatine and Pleasant Valley. The regional assignment was favorable, keeping West in Iowa City and sending them to a site they know well.
'We were excited when we saw the four regions,” Goodfellow said. 'We're pretty familiar with (the course).”
Jordan Amelon leads the way, averaging a little more than 85 per 18 holes. Mackenzi Marsh, who averages about 86 shots per 18, Avery Kout and Allye Boardman round out the top four scorers for West. Boardman has stepped into the No. 4 spot, contributing more this season and solidifying the lineup.
'We don't have that one girl that goes 74 or 76 but we are close,” Goodfellow said. 'We've just been real consistent.”
Each of the top four have state experience. Goodfellow said it was a great experience. She added that they did as well as possible and are focused on a return to Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown.
'We hope to play our best,” Goodfellow said, 'and get another trip to state so we can check off another one of our goals.”
Cedar Rapids Washington will host a 5A regional at Gardner Golf Course in Marion. The Warriors will compete against Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Dubuque Hempstead, Dubuque Senior, Linn-Mar, Mason City, Waterloo East and Waterloo West.
Cedar Rapids Xavier will attempt to return to the 4A state tournament. The Saints, the defending state champs, host a regional meet, including Clear Creek Amana, DeWitt Central, Davenport Assumption, Davenport North, Fairfield, Keokuk, Maquoketa, Mount Pleasant, North Scott, Oskaloosa and Washington.
Marion heads to a regional at Waverly Municipal Golf Course.
