Could Kurt Warner Way be coming to Cedar Rapids?
Feb. 5, 2010 7:04 am
Zach Johnson has his name on a Cedar Rapids street, and so, too, should Kurt Warner.
That's the thought of City Council member Chuck Swore, who succeeded in getting the council to change the name of a short street going into Elmcrest Country Club to Zach Johnson Drive shortly after the Cedar Rapids native won the 2007 Masters golf tournament.
Swore first suggested a street called Kurt Warner Way a year ago to salute the football accomplishments of native son Warner. But Swore wasn't on the council then, as he was in 2007. He's back on the council now, though, and he has put the Warner matter on the City Council agenda, tentatively for Feb. 17, with hopes of naming an unnamed street outside of Kingston Stadium for Warner.
Swore isn't the only one thinking of Warner. KZIA Z102.9 and KGYM 1600 ESPN Radio in Cedar Rapids last week wrote to City Hall to make a case for naming a street for Warner. The radio stations are suggesting a street near Warner's former high school, now Regis Middle School.
