IOWA CITY - The backyard chicken issue is finally going to the City Council.
A petition drive started in April, calling on the city to allow people to keep up to five hens in residential areas. Organizers turned in the petition a couple of months ago. And now the council has the matter on the agenda for its work session Monday.
Click here for a story and here for a city memo on the topic.
If you want to voice an opinion on whether the city should allow people to keep chickens in their backyard, please remember that public comment is not taken at work sessions. But should the council move forward with an ordinance, there would be a public hearing at a council meeting.
Until then, feel free to leave a comment here.
