It came down to the wire, or rather, the rope, on Night 38, as Sarah Lacina of Cedar Rapids was just one step away from making the final three for 'Survivor: Winners at War.”
She lost the fire-making challenge by mere moments, as Tony Vlachos' fire burned through his rope first, knocking Lacina out of the competition.
Denise Stapley of Marion was close behind, being voted out of the game on Night 36, winnowing the competitors from six to five.
The final three going all the way to the Night 39 jury vote were Vlachos, Michele Fitzgerald and Natalie Anderson, who battled her way back into the game after being the first one voted onto the Edge of Extinction on Day 2.
During a live video chat with the final three and host Jeff Probst via Zoom, Vlachos was named the Sole Survivor, winning $2 million and the title of the best of the best among the field of 20 previous $1 million winners.
