5 to Watch in Iowa's Recruiting Class
Rodney Coe:
6'4, 240 lbs. RB/LB
Coe is a 4-star recruit (Rivals.com) that comes from Edwardsville HS in Edwardsville, Illinois. A large kid with explosion and power, Coe looks intimidating on the football field. In comparison, Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings is 6'1, 220 lbs. If Iowa decides to keep him at RB that would be a huge advantage. This is a statement recruit for Iowa that will be heard nationwide. Coe was reported to have offers from Alabama, Iowa, Auburn, Florida, Illinois, Ohio State and Wisconsin just to name a few, and has chosen the Hawks.
Nicholas Law:
6'3, 195 lbs. DB
“Nico” as he likes to be called is a hard-hitting safety out of Forestville, Maryland. Also receiving offers from Maryland, Illinois, Miami(FL), Michigan State and Virginia Tech, Nico has verbally committed to being a Hawkeye. An avid user of Twitter, Nico often shows his love for the Hawks and the opportunity in front of him. Law once tweeted, “Off No Disrespect, I don't want to be a Bob Sanders! I want to Be like Nico Law, maybe one day someone would want to be like me.” A tall kid with aggressiveness and quickness, Nico is definitely a hitter. Once at Iowa and able to put on some weight he could shine for the Hawks, and fill the place of Tyler Sash very nicely.
Jordan Walsh:
6'3, 275 lbs. OL
Jordan is a man amongst boys playing in Glen Ellyn, Illinois for Glenbard West HS. Jordan is a 4 star recruit (Rivals.com) with offers from Arizona, Michigan, Nebraska, Tennessee, USC and Iowa. Jordan has verbally committed to Iowa. Walsh has amazing athleticism for a big man and will be able to compete for a starting role right away with the Hawks. His 275 lb. frame should fill out nicely with the Hawkeyes. Walsh is another statement recruit with a lot of attention.
Melvin Spears:
6'2, 230 lbs. LB
Melvin is from the hotbed of recruiting in Texas. As Iowa fans know, Texas has been a large recruitment base for Iowa since Hayden Fry was head coach. A standout out at Allen HS in Allen, TX, Melvin has great size and speed for a LB and is the prototypical Big Ten MLB. Spears, along with LB James Morris should have the ability to become Iowa's next big LB tandem. Melvin received interest from Iowa, Minnesota Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.
Jake Rudock:
6'3, 190 lbs. QB
Rudock might be the player we're really talking about in a few years. The leader for St. Thomas Aquinas in Ft. Lauderdale, FL whom many feel is the top HS program in the country and is currently ranked 5th. (USA Today). Rudock recently led Aquinas to the Florida HS 5A State Championship and had a 37-1 record as a starter. (Miami Herald) Rudock is the prototypical pocket passer with great poise and arm strength. Rudock received interest from Nebraska, Tennesse, Wisconsin, Iowa and Memphis. Rudock is a huge get for the Hawks!
These 5 are the standouts for the Hawks who currently have 19 commits. Iowa looks to have about 25 on signing day, February 2nd, 2011.
