Iowa City Regina Junior/Senior High School principal resigns

Mar. 2, 2012 12:23 pm
UPDATE: Glenn Plummer has been named interim principal of Regina Junior/Senior High School after former principal David Krummel submitted his resignation earlier this week, according to an email that was sent to parents.
Krummel submitted his intent to resign to the Regina Board of Education on Tuesday, according to the email. The board accepted that resignation Tuesday evening, and it will go into effect immediately, the email states.
Lee Iben, president and CEO of Regina Catholic Education Center, said in the email that the school wishes Krummel and his family “only the best.” He did not immediately return phone calls from The Gazette for further comment.
Plummer was named interim principal immediately. A formal search for a permanent principal is underway, according to the email.
It's unclear at this time why Krummel resigned. A woman who answered the phone at his house Friday morning said he's out of town and she was not at liberty to talk about the situation.
Krummel did not immediately return a message left on his cell phone Friday morning.
Rev. Rudolph Juarez, a pastor at St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Iowa City and member of Regina's board of education, declined to comment on Krummel's departure, but he said it didn't involve a policy violation or criminal investigation, and it wasn't related to a health issue.
Krummel, who is 43 years old, took over as principal of the Catholic school at the start of the 2009-10 school year. He is a 1987 Regina graduate and parent of Regina students.
When he was hired, he said he had always wanted to be principal of Regina's junior-senior high school and, “I hope to be there a long time.”
