Video: Dannen introduces Schwab as UNI's head coach

May. 13, 2010 2:51 pm
The hiring hasn't been a secret since earlier in the week, but the University of Northern Iowa officially introduced Doug Schwab as the Panthers' new head wrestling coach, replacing Brad Penrith, who was let go April 7th. Schwab, a former three-time All-American for the University of Iowa and 1999 141-pound national champion, has spent the last four years as an assistant for the Hawkeyes, helping them to three straight Big Ten and NCAA team titles.
The media room was packed with supporters, other UNI coaches including Panthers football coach Mark Farley and basketball coach Ben Jacobson, and, most importantly, some former UNI wrestling figures such as former coach Don Briggs and former wrestlers and Wartburg co-head coaches Jim M iller and Eric Keller.
Here is Dannen addressing the media and UNI faithful about the hire.
Dannen shared a little levity before bringing Schwab in front of the gathering. It appears one of Schwab's children were initially upset about switching allegiances from the Hawkeyes to the Panthers. An offering was made to win them over.
