Mount Mercy rolled past Grand View, 71-51, in a Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament semifinal Saturday at Sisam Arena in Des Moines, advancing to take on Clarke for the championship Monday night in Cedar Rapids.
Second-seeded Grand View (14-18) led 20-18 with 5:33 left in the first half, but the third-seeded Mustangs closed the half with a 15-2 run to take control of the game.
Mount Mercy (19-13) quickly expanded that lead to 18 points in the second half, leading 47-29 with 16:06 to play on a 3-point basket by Paige Last. Grand View didn't mount a threat after that.
Abby Herb scored 22 points for Mount Mercy. Last and Alisa Weiland added 10 points apiece.
Monday's conference championship game tips off at 7 in Hennessey Recreation Center on the Mount Mercy campus.
LUTHER 61, WARTBURG 53
- Luther is going to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2007 with this victory in the Iowa Conference Tournament final at the Regents Center in Decorah.
Meagan Koepnick scored 19 points for Luther (22-5), and Moran Lonning contributed 11.
Kailey Kladivo scored 17 points for Wartburg (18-10).
The Norse led 31-22 at halftime.
KIRKWOOD 63, IOWA CENTRAL 48
- Kirkwood improved to 25-5 overall and 13-1 in the Iowa Central Community College Athletic Conference in a Sophomore Day contest at Johnson Hall in Cedar Rapids.
The Eagles, who bolted to a 41-27 lead after 20 minutes, got balanced scoring with 11 points apiece from Taylor Silva, Cassidy Clark and Ariel Sneed. Anna Martensen added 10 points. Sneed made it a double-double with 10 rebounds.
ST. NORBERT 72, CORNELL 51
- St. Norbert broke open a tight game in the second half to win the Midwest Conference Tournament at Du Pere, Wis.
Cornell (15-10) trailed by just a point at halftime, 27-26, but St. Norbert (22-3) hit 7 of 12 3-point shots in the second half while pulling away.
Taylor Dicus had 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting and added nine rebounds for Cornell. Maggie Hogen scored 10 points.
