UNI to unveil plan for Price Lab school

University of Northern Iowa leaders plan to announce their recommendations for the future of the K-12 laboratory school operated by its College of Education.
President Ben Allen and Provost Gloria Gibson planned to meet Wednesday evening with parents of children attending Malcolm Price Laboratory School, which is highly regarded but has faced budget problems in recent years. About 400 students are enrolled at the school, which is staffed by university professors who teach and conduct research and gives education students a place to learn.
Allen said last week that he was considering ways to save money by making changes to the school, along with UNI athletics, the university's natural history museum and its printing shop. He also said unpopular academic programs would be merged with others or eliminated.
