Coe’s Dylan Stepleton a 1st-team All-American by AFCA

CEDAR RAPIDS — Coe College senior cornerback Dylan Stepleton was named a first-team NCAA Division III All-American by the American Football Coaches Association, it was announced Monday.
The former Wilton High School player had nine interception in 12 games this season, including running a pair back for touchdowns. He also blocked a field-goal attempt on the final play of the game to cement a win over Wartburg.
Senior running back Trevor Heitland was named a second-teamer by the AFCA. He led the nation in all-purpose yards per game and is one of four finalists for the Gagliardi Trophy, which goes to D-III's top player.
That award will be handed out Friday night.
Coe Coach Tyler Staker was named Region 5 Coach of the Year by the AFCA and D3football.com's All-West Region Coach of the Year. Coe finished 11-1, winning the Iowa Conference and a D-III playoff game before falling to St. Thomas (Minn.).
