Successful fundraiser lands Marion school principal up on the roof
MARION - St. Joseph Catholic School Principal Casey Kettmann spent the day Monday working from the roof of the school, located at 1430 14th St. in Marion.
Kettmann's move the open-air office was making good on a promise to his students. Students raised more than $10,000 in the school's fall fundraiser known as the Charger Challenge, put on in part by the St. Joseph Chargers Parent Organization.
'I've always said, I'd do almost anything to benefit our school,” Kettmann said in a statement provided by the school. 'This goes to show we have great families and a great support system that want to see our students and faculty be successful.
'Plus, we're having fun, too.”
The other incentives were popular, too. He was dunked more than 105 times in a dunk tank, and three students will take over his job as 'Principal for a Day,” school officials said. The entire school also earned a trip to a trampoline park.
The added incentives helped the event generate five times the amount it did a year ago.
The funds will be put to use in making school upgrades. New bleachers are high on the list, according to Kettmann.
St. Joseph Catholic School has an enrollment of 205 students in preschool through eighth grade.
