KUDOS
Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman attorneys Matthew Brandes (see photo), Thomas Wolle (see photo) and Larry Gutz (see photo) were recognized by the Supreme Court of Iowa for contributing more than 50 hours of pro bono service in 2012-2013 to low-income clients referred by the Iowa Legal Aid Volunteer Lawyers Project.
Paul Hammerschmidt (see photo), operations manager at 7G Distributing in Cedar Rapids, has been recognized by the National Beer Wholesalers Association Employee Spotlight Program. Hammerschmidt has worked for 7G Distributing for 25 years.
The Winery at Kirkwood has received international and local awards for several of its wines. La Madeliina was awarded a silver award in the sparkling category at the Tasters Guild 27th Annual International Wine Judging event. The 2013 Frontenac Gris received a double gold medal at the Iowa State Fair Commercial Wine Competition and Edelweiss, Master's Cuvee, Four Point Oh! and Frontenac Dessert were awarded bronze medals.
Nick Lindsley (see photo) of Neumann Monson Architects in Iowa City achieved registered architect status in July in the state of Iowa.
Two Amana Colonies wineries, Ackerman Winery and White Cross Cellars, received multiple awards at the 2014 Mid-American Wine Competition. Ackerman Winery, owned and operated by Les Ackerman, earned three gold, four silver and two bronze, plus a nomination for a Sweepstakes award. White Cross Cellars, owned and operated by David and Mary Rettig, earned three gold, one silver and two bronze, plus two nominations for the Sweepstakes award.
Al Geisman of Steamatic of Cedar Rapids received the 2014 Hall of Fame Award from Steamatic Inc.
Mike Moore (photo), president and CEO of the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa, has been selected to receive the 2014 Dr. Herbert Shore Outstanding Mentor Award from LeadingAge, a national association representing 6,000 non-profit aging-services organizations throughout the United States.
Marco Inc., was named SMB Partner of the Year by Microsoft for the central region. The business, based in St. Cloud, Minn., has an office in Hiawatha.
MISCELLANEOUS
Nathan Elliot (see photo), math and computer science teacher at Clear Creek-Amana High School, participated in Real World Externships, a four- to six-week program of the Governor's STEM Advisory Council. Elliot was matched with Mazira, a data and document management company in Iowa City.
