A Cedar Rapids man was killed Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 380.
According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, a car driven by Rashad Namar Carrington, 26, was northbound on Interstate 380 at the Highway 965 overpass in Johnson County at 3:05 a.m. Sunday when Carrington lost control. His car struck a guardrail and came to rest in the east ditch.
Carrington was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by the Johnson County medical examiner, according to the report.
Carrington played for a Waterloo-based minor league basketball team, the Cedar Valley CourtKings.
The team is in its inaugural season and was set to play its first home game May 15 in Waterloo.
In a statement on its Facebook page, the team said, 'Our hearts are heavy today as the CourtKings family mourns the death of a teammate, leader and friend to all of us.'
The statement also noted that Carrington was the team's starting point guard.
Carrington previously played basketball for Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids.
