Iowa City boxer still in hospital, but improving, after being hurt in fight

An Iowa City boxer is improving each day after being hospitalized Saturday night following a fight at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, her mother said Tuesday.
Emily Klinefelter faced Christina Ruiz of San Antonio, Tex. on Saturday night. The fight was stopped in the third round, and Klinefelter was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
"Emily is doing wonderfully well and is continuing to improve each day," Klinefelter's mother, Cindy Parsons, wrote in an email Tuesday. "The doctors' prognosis for a full recovery remains in effect."
Visitors are restricted to family members, Parsons said, but Klinefelter may be emailed a message through the hospital website, www.uihealthcare.org, by clicking on "E-mail a Patient."
"Emily and her family sincerely appreciate all of the care and concern which has been expressed," Parsons said in her email.
Klinfelter, 26, is one of the highest-ranked female boxers in the nation, as is her younger sister, Katy Klinefelter.
Emily Klinefelter is shown before her pro boxing debut in February 2008.
