Iowa City daycare provider slapped child, police say

A daycare provider is accused of assaulting the child she was caring for last month.
According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, an investigator was contacted on June 21 about a child at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with an injury. The injury – which left a handprint across the child's face from chin to ear – was allegedly caused by the child's car provider, 56-year-old Bessie L. Pulley.
Police said Pulley slapped the child.
Pulley denied the allegations, but declined to take a polygraph test, police said. She was taken into custody this week and faces one count of assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor.
